The timeline for the new consolidated wastewater treatment plant is driven by two major factors:
-
To meet the requirements of our Liquid Waste Management Plan (LWMP) to be operational by 2025
-
To take advantage of the significant grant funding expected to be announced from the federal and provincial governments for public infrastructure projects
In March 2017, we were successfully awarded the maximum proportion of grant funding to design our wastewater treatment plant: 83% funding (more than $3.3 million) from the federal and provincial governments.
Following technical design work by City staff and the consultant engineer Associated Engineering and community input, City Council voted on the core design elements of the new facility in May 2018.
In August 2018, City staff submitted an application to the federal and provincial governments for grant funding to build the new facility. We hope to hear back on our grant application in the spring of 2019.
